Innovative Renewable Energy Solution Brings Efficiency and Comfort to Wells-Next-The-Sea, Norfolk Home

The Challenge

Remain Warm & Energy Efficient While Reducing Reliance on the Grid

Sue Clarke, a customer with a home in Wells Next The Sea, Norfolk, wanted to enhance her property’s energy independence, especially as she spends part of the year abroad. Her main goal was to ensure the house would remain warm and energy-efficient while she was away, and reduce reliance on the grid to lower energy costs. The roof, which faced both east and west, had some constraints due to two Velux windows on the east side, reducing panel placement options. However, the west-facing roof was deemed the best solution, despite the presence of a chimney that could cause shading.

Date of Completion: 23rd April 2024
System: 1 18 x 400w Solar Panels (7.2kW) + 5.2kWh Battery Storage

Wise Green Energy Ltd installed a 7.2kW solar system, and a 5.2kWh battery storage system alongside an Air-to-Air heat pump.

The Solution:

Solar PV Paired with Battery Storage and Air-to-air heat pump

To meet these goals, Wise Green Energy Ltd installed a highly efficient solar PV system, combined with battery storage and an air-to-air heat pump. The 7.2kW solar system is expected to generate approximately 2,970 kWh annually, providing substantial savings on electricity bills. A 5.2kWh battery storage system was also installed to store excess solar energy generated during the day for use during the evening, supporting the operation of the air-to-air heat pump.
complete energy control

7% return on investment in the first year

The air-to-air heat pump provides heating and cooling to the property and can be controlled remotely, allowing Sue to monitor and adjust settings from anywhere in the world. During the summer, the solar panels run the cooling system for free, while in the winter, the heat pump uses stored solar energy at a much lower cost, thanks to off-peak night tariffs from Octopus Energy (just 8p per kWh).
The Result

Reduced carbon Footprint

Sue now enjoys a significantly reduced carbon footprint, increased energy savings, and a more comfortable home environment. The system is performing as expected, with projected annual savings of £688, alongside export payments for excess energy. The integration of solar power, battery storage, and air-to-air heat pump technology creates a sustainable energy solution, offering a 7% return on investment in the first year, with further savings as electricity prices rise.

System Features & Benefits:
